A CAPPELLA CLUB - Sponsor is Mr. Foskey - room 805. Students meet weekly to sing the latest pop a cappella arrangements. There is a group for sopranos and altos as well as a group for tenors and basses. The two groups also combine for some songs. Entrance to A Cappella Club is by audition, held in the fall and spring. BLACK STUDENT UNION – Sponsor is Ms. Mattocks – room 723. Black Student Union will foster student growth and development through diversity, academics, community service, and outreach. CHESS CLUB -Sponsor is Ms. Prelipp - room 503. Chess club provides students of all skill levels the opportunity to meet new players, learn the game, and improve their skills. Snacks and chess boards are provided (but we also welcome those who enjoy online matches). Meetings will be held monthly on Wednesdays. CREATIVE WRITING & POETS OF BUTLER- Sponsor is Mr. McCrea - Room 716. Provide a cordial environment that encourages members to involve themselves in their writing, collaborate with others and overall improve upon their writing skills. DECA is a youth organization associated with Marketing Education. Students who have taken or are currently enrolled in Marketing Education classes are encouraged to join and participate in DECA activities. DECA offers students an opportunity to become involved with business leaders and to prepare for careers in various marketing and business areas. Business leaders in the community provide support for the DECA program in many ways. DUAL ENROLLMENT SOCIETY - Sponsors are Mr. Coleman, Ms. English, & Ms. Johnson - room Career Center. Our mission is to empower students with the knowledge and resources needed to excel in Dual Enrollment. Through engaging events, social media outreach, and fundraising efforts, we strive to create a hub where students can access clear information, receive timely updates, and connect with peers on the path to academic success. For gamers who either want to take their game to the next level in competition through CMS partnership with Stiegler EdTech or just have a fun competitive place to enjoy video gaming and making friendships over video games in a safe environment through appropriate rated teen games.. FAMILY, CAREER AND COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA (FCCLA) - Sponsors are Chef Walker and Mr. Kobe - room 705/720. FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. FLAG FOOTBALL (GIRLS) - Coach is Drew Sanders. CMS Athletics in partnership with the NFL Carolina Panthers. This club emphasizes teamwork, strategic thinking, and physical fitness while promoting inclusivity and sportsmanship. Students will learn the fundamentals of the game, participate in friendly competitions, and develop leadership skills in a supportive and fun environment. The season takes place in the Spring, games are played across CMS campuses on Saturday and Sunday and the championships are played at Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL Carolina Panthers in the early part of May. FIBER ARTS GUILD (CROCHET AND KNITTING CLUB) - sponsored by Mr. Rusk - room 955. FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA) – Sponsor is Ms. Deese – Room 406. Membership dues are $20.00. Our mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Encourage members in the development of individual projects that contribute to the improvement of home, business, and community. Assist students in the establishment of occupational goals. GIRLS IN STEM - Sponsor is Ms. Urbina - room 207. Strives to close the gender gap of women in STEM by providing resources for students to explore various fields. HISPANIC CULTURE & CONNECTION - Sponsor is Mr. Noguera - room 909. Promote opportunities for minority students at BHS by mentoring Hispanic students with special focus on leadership, goal setting for their future, and community outreach and career days. INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL CLUB (ICC) / Butler Abroad – Sponsor is Ms. Ferron & Ms. McDevitt – Media Center. A social and interest organization dedicated to learning and celebrating international cultures with a focus on the countries that Butler Abroad will be visiting. The goal is to help students understand more about the countries around the world. KEY CLUB – Sponsor is Ms. McDevitt – Room 706 - this is a school/community service club with Matthew’s Kiwanis. MEN’s VOLLEYBALL CLUB - Sponsor is Coach Boney - Location: Gym. Students will compete against other district schools in Men's VB. MODEL UN - Sponsor is Mr. Richards- room 410. MUN is a simulation activity for students that involves research, writing, public speaking, and debate. To unite inquisitive students that aspire to explore the legal world and help them seek vocational opportunities, by reading legal affidavits, preparing opening/closing arguments, and questioning material witnesses, with the hopes to compete at the NC Mock Trial Regionals and various scrimmages against local public and private schools. SPIN Club (Color Guard and Dance Club) - Sponsor is Ms. Gileza - Location: Band Room. This is a dance and spin club designed to help with recruitment initiatives for the Marching Band. Students will organize, collaborate, and perform choreographed numbers at the Spring Band Concert, along with creating initiatives to help grow the Color guard program at Butler. UNIFIED CHAMPIONS CLUB – Sponsor is Ms. Deeg – Meets in the Media Center, 2-4 days a month or as needed to prepare for upcoming events. An education-based program that uses sports and education initiatives of Special Olympics and the Unified Champions Schools program to activate youth to promote school communities where all young people are agents of change – fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities. We participate in unified sports and activities at school and on field trips throughout the school year, fundraise for Special Olympic and club needs as well as host events to help change the school climate to RESPECT and EMBRACE diversity and acceptance among all students. MATH HONOR SOCIETY – Sponsor is Mr. Hartman - room 508. Meetings on Mondays until 3 pm. Students will compete in math competitions across the county and state. Applicants must have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.5 and provide evidence of leadership, service in community and school activities, volunteer and/or work activities. QUILL & SCROLL (website link)– Sponsor is Mr. Rusk - room 955.11 th -12th grade students with at least a 3.0 unweighted cumulative GPA may apply to join in 1 st Semester. Potential members must provide evidence of excellence in publishing or school media (literary staff, yearbook, media center class, etc.) and be recommended by a teacher or advisor for membership. Disciplinary action and/or violations of the David W. Butler Honor Code may exclude applicants from membership. Applications for new members will be made available in Semester 1. SCIENCE NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY - Sponsor is Ms. Suarez - room 211. The mission statement for Science National Honors Society is to provide a time outside of regular classes for students that are passionate in the field of sciences to meet like-minded individuals and flourish in an environment that stimulates their critical thinking. We wish this club to be a positive challenge academically that encourages their interest in the sciences. We also wish to establish a space that fuels curiosity, provides the optimal space for continued learning, and assists with giving back to our community. If selected, students will need to register for the class, Yearbook I, II, or III (Editor), which is offered as an A/B day class.
